4) About Xavier’s Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship (XIME) Bangalore

XIME in certain ways is a unique institution. It was started in June 1991 by a group of academics under the leadership of Prof. J. Philip, Former Director of IIM-B. The founding group included : Dr. E. Abraham, S.J., the then Director of XLRI, Prof. J. D. Cherayil, a Former Senior Professor of IISc and Dr. Fr. Percy Fernandez, Director of St. John’s Medical College.

From its very beginning, it was decided that it would have no quota, no reservation and no management seats. All admissions to the Institute were to be based solely on merit. In another noteworthy feature, XIME is one of the leading B-Schools where the percentage of women students in each batch ranges from 40 to 48 every year.

XIME received AICTE approval to start its full-time PGDBM programme in May 1995. From its very first batch of graduates in 1997, it enjoyed full placement featuring some of the best companies of India. Considering its consistent good performance and market standing, AICTE permitted XIME to double its intake capacity to 120 in May 2002.

XIME’s beginning in June 1991 was rather modest, and in a leased building. But in January 2002, it moved into its new campus in the heart of Electronics City having practically all modern facilities. In architecture, facilities and landscaping, it is a beautiful campus. It is located in a 4.30 acre plot of land. In terms of achievements, XIME :

• Has had 100 percent placement every year

• Has organized a number of path breaking national seminars and workshops, some of which with the sponsorship of AICTE

• Organized on behalf of AICTE the first ever Workshop on Accreditation of Management Schools in November 1995

• In September 2004, XIME received the highest level of 5-year accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation

The ‘E’ in XIME stands for Entrepreneurship. It is one of its goals to facilitate Entrepreneurship among its graduates/alumni. In line with its strong belief in networking, XIME offers most of its Seminars/Workshops in collaboration with industry or professional associations. Its campus itself is an excellent example of industry-institute collaboration : Its four main classrooms are donated by industry or by philanthropic individuals. Its library is funded by the Tata Trust and well -appointed auditorium (300 seating capacity) funded by the Oberoi Group. Its Executive Conference Hall is donated by Biocon.

XIME tries to be innovative in many ways. It is perhaps the first B-School in the country to offer a one-year Diploma Programme in Construction Management to contribute to the ever-growing need of professional manpower in the construction industry.

New Delhi, INDIA - With a successful footprint in towns with 4-lakh plus population, Veta, Asia’s largest Spoken English Training Academy and a brand owned by Amoha Education (P) Ltd., today announced the launch of VetaOne, its new venture aimed at building India from the grassroots level. With VetaOne, Veta plans to emulate its success in towns with 1-lakh plus population.

Announcing the launch, Major K. V. Rajan, Executive Director, Veta said, “Today the socio-economic scenario in our semi-rural landscape is far from satisfactory. There is rampant unemployment and people are largely dependant on non-permanent earning opportunities. Nevertheless, we can definiety see a positive attitude developing among the people in these towns. They are waking up the importance of speaking and using good English. With this kind of culture as the backdrop, we, with our expertise as the market leaders in spoken English Training in India, can train the people of these towns to speak fluent English, thus empowering them to face the challenges posed by the booming economy as they migrate from small town India to bigger cities in pursuit of employment”.

Why VetaOne?

Small town India is today flying really high. With growing awareness among the youth and their parents, and the increasing admiration for newer and greener pastures, small town students nowadays are embracing growth oriented professions with open arms. Such professions are no more considered glamorous career lines meant only for metro-bred youth.

Small town students are today becoming pilots, fashion designers, cricket players, software professionals, and pursuing various other such career oriented opportunities. They aspire to lead decent lifestyles and to keep up with changing times.

But at the same time, thousands of people who aspire for such aspirational jobs at various organisations fail to make it as they lack good English speaking skills. The conversion rate, i.e. the ratio of the total number of applicants to the number of applicants who meet the requirement on spoken English skills for such jobs is usually very low. Rejection on the basis of Spoken English skills represents the largest rejection rate in the entire recruitment process.

VetaOne aims to cater to this segment of small town aspirations. And as the tagline goes - ‘English for Everyone’, VetaOne comes with the promise of employability enhancement for the small town youth with good command in spoken English.

Opportunity for franchisees

With a goodwill built over 27 years, a franchisee of VetaOne would be an enterprise in itself. “With excellent guidance and support from the management, VetaOne promises to be a lucrative opportunity for those who have entrepreneurial drive and enthusiasm to set up their own business, in these small towns” says Rajan.

Veta advantage

Veta today offers customised courses for various levels of learners. Similarly, the course material for the VetaOne course would be original content developed and prepared by Veta. The course will have customised content relevant to the needs of the students of that particular course. The content will be constantly modified and updated according to changing trends in communication.

The study material package, developed by a panel of experts at Veta, would train the students in everyday structures and vocabulary. The study material includes a lot of “Do it yourself” home study units and gives a definite practice in the language.

Veta, leaders and Asia’s largest Spoken English Training Academy, offers courses catering to various levels of learners. It offers two kinds of courses - Direct Training and the Distance Education course. Veta also offers training for corporates to ensure that the quality of its staff is enhanced. Founded in 1981 as the Vivekananda Institute, the brand, now known as Veta has 200 training centres in over 100 cities in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and West Bengal. Over 2.1 million students have been trained by Veta till date.
