The Africa Diplomatic Group-II takes initiative in Social Causes

New Delhi, INDIA - The Government of Namibia & The Government of Egypt on behalf of Africa Diplomatic Group-II announced charity donations for various social causes to reputed Indian NGO’s in ‘Africa Nite Charity Donation Function’ held at the Embassy of the Namibia, New Delhi. The event was a follow up on the group’s annual event ‘Africa Nite’ to raise funds for charity held in November, 2007.

NGO’s ‘All India Cricket Association of the Deaf’, ‘Navjeevan Sewa Mandal’ and ‘Anurag Society’ were the beneficiaries with each receiving Rs. 80,000 for social work in their respective areas. Representatives from ‘Anurag Society’ and ‘All India Cricket Association of the Deaf’ were present during the event to receive the cheques from the Honourable Minister Counsellor, Namibia High Commission, Mr. Japhet Isaack, who is also the Chairperson of Africa Diplomatic Group-II.

‘Anurag Society’ is a Delhi based NGO working in the area of education for under-privileged girls and adults. ‘The All India Cricket Association of the Deaf’ organises cricket for the deaf and also engage them in creative work. ‘Navjeevan Sewa Mandal’ runs fifty four projects all over India works mainly for children with HIV/AIDS.

Presiding over the function Mr. Japhet Isaack - Honourable Minister Counsellor, Namibia High Commission and Chairperson of Africa Diplomatic Group-II said, “We welcome the contributions made by the Indian private sector, diplomats, expatriates and civil servants from the host government. We hope to raise more money and make a bigger contribution in future. It has been our constant endeavour to make a difference in someone’s life. We are encouraged by the eagerness of diplomats from other countries like our European counterparts to join in the cause.”

The Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Samuel F. Aiyedona, Minister, High Commission of Nigeria introduced the diplomats from various member countries of the group. Giving a brief on the concept behind the ‘Africa Nite’ event, he said, “The annual ‘Africa Night’ event for the past decade has aimed to enhance the already existing bilateral relations between India and the African continent through cultural events. The Africa Night brings together diplomats, business community and expatriates, where they can interact informally while being entertained.”

The ‘Africa Nite’ event held on the 17th November 2007 was based on the theme “India-Africa: Intensifying Cultural Ties” and showcased the rich Indo - Africa cultural heritage. Africa Diplomatic Group-II is composed of all the African Mission’s resident in New Delhi. Diplomats from member countries Botswana, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Namibia, Nigeria, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe were also present at the event.
