New Zealand Strengthen its Trade Relationship with India

Leading a trade delegation of major players from the Timber industry of New Zealand, Mr Jim Anderton, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Biosecurity and Fisheries on his first visit to India, today inaugurated the second office of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise in Mumbai, signifying the strengthening of trade relationship between the two countries.

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise already has an office in New Delhi and the expansion highlights the growing importance of the India/New Zealand trade relationship.

“The institution of new office of NZTE in Mumbai reflects the city’s importance as a hub for Western and Southern India. The inauguration of the new office is reflective of increased focus on opportunities in the region,” said Minister Anderton, “and growing interest in this vast market from New Zealand companies.”

The Mumbai office will support New Zealand’s international trade programmes and growth strategies including supporting the India Beachheads Advisory Board. India Beachheads was established in 2007 with Pradip Madhavji taking the role of Chairman and V M Crishna – MD of Godrej Upstream Ltd, Philip Michell -Director for ANZ India, Sandeep Tandon -Group Advisor to Reliance Group of Industries and R Ramanan -CEO of CMC Ltd, taking advisory positions on the Board.

Minister Anderton is in India leading a trade mission for the wood and building industry. Last week New Zealand Trade and Enterprise launched Aviation NZ at the Aviation Expo in New Delhi. Both events signal a deep desire from New Zealand to increase trade relationships;

New Zealand exports were NZD $366 million in 2007.
